Art Education

IMG_5019.jpg

I have worked with people of all ages, in workshops and classes offered in my studio; La Casa del Alebrije as well as in numerous art residencies in local schools and community groups.

My goal is to offer unique art programs designed to nourish and encourage the student’s creativity through many different themes and mediums, while supporting educators and curriculum objectives.

Working in collaboration with many educators over the years has given me the opportunity to create projects that support and enhance various Essential Skills, including (but not limited to):

  • Art Language and Tools (Mess-Free Paper Mache)

  • Creative Expression (Idea, Sketch and Realization)

  • Understanding Art in Context (Culture, Nature and History)

  • Valuing Artistic Experience (Artist Statement)

  • Behavior Strategies (Self-Monitoring, Mental Health)

  • Education for Sustainable Development (Citizenship and Activism)

  • Critical Thinking (Making Self-Worth Choices)

“This project was a huge success! All our grade 7 and 8 students were engaged in the project. Students were excited and could not wait to work on their masks each day. Alejandra is a wonderful artist to work with. She was able to guide and assist the students into creating wonderful pieces of art. The students' masks look amazing and they are very proud of them. Our students learned valuable art skills and were able to enhance their learning in other curricular areas as well.”

“Ale did a super job implementing the project. Scheduling, preparing ahead of time, explaining, and working with the youngest group of students ever to make Alebrijes (Grade 1/2). She worked with staff members and volunteers, while always being patient, professional and prepared.  The teachers, students, and parents are very thankful for this. It was one of those projects that will remain as an educational highlight for the students that participated.”

I am a great believer that art needs to serve a purpose and I will keep trying to make art an effective tool for learning and expression, for teachers, students and myself.
