Alebrijes

The story of the Alebrijes starts years ago with an artist named Pedro Linares, from Mexico City.  One evening he became very ill.  In a turbulent sleep, he had dreams of strange creatures with animal like combinations - a donkey with the wings of a butterfly, a rooster with an eagle’s head, and other mystical animal creations.  He named these visions, Alebrijes.  Pedro eventually recovered from his illness and went on to create artwork that combined features from different animals, just like the visions he saw in his dreams.
